Let’s Talk Turkey

The toll-free numbers that turkey purveyors have set up to answer questions and aid distressed holiday cooks have fielded millions of calls. They operate on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and many calls are from first-time turkey chefs.

Among the more unusual calls, people have inquired about thawing turkeys in electric blankets, Jacuzzis, and the shower.

Maybe you’ve experience a holiday where you felt frazzled by what to do with this huge bird that everyone will be expecting to eat in a few hours. There is a special frustration that comes with holiday cooking and food preparation; you know it is all in the name of enjoying a good meal, but sometimes the road to the dining room table is a little bumpy.

But imagine a different kind of frustration…the kind that comes from not knowing if you and your family will be able to eat…the kind that comes from hearing about great Thanksgiving meals everywhere and wondering how you can provide this.

If you or someone you know is unsure about what you will have for your Thanksgiving meal, there is help. Households in need can get one turkey at Manna House on Hangtree Lane in Oakhurst. Turkeys will be available for pickup on Monday, November 19.
