Real Estate Billionaire Donald Trump Has a Good Chance at Developing Running Horse

Donald Trump appears to have his eyes on the central valley and Running Horse may be the perfect development in need of such a name and reputation. The failed Running Horse development was auctioned off this last week and purchased by La Jolla Loans whom originally financed the project. The City of Fresno will negotiate the purchase of Running Horse and would like to sell it to Donald Trump. Mr. Trump is now in process of organizing his team to build and complete the project. I am excited to hear of the Trump organization showing an interest in the Central Valley and hope to see Mr. Trump show an interest in future developments in Fresno and Madera Counties. To keep up to date on this development and for information on how to purchase a Trump property in Running Horse just visit this blog regularly for the latest news and information.

The Early Bird Does Get the Worm!

Not to be outdone by last week’s reunions, the Alegria Class of 1962 is having its 45th Reunion from 5:00 a.m. to 11:59 pm on October 6th. I can’t help but wonder what they will be doing that early in the morning! Hopefully they will have ample time to attend the Alegria Guild’s 56th annual Day in the Country, which will be held from 10 am to 2 pm October 6th. This year’s new location is Borba Family’s Scenic Rancho Vista Del Rio at 6440 Golden State Blvd. in Madera near State Route 99, just off the Avenue 7 exit.

Tickets are only $30 and event proceeds benefit Children’s Hospital. You’ll enjoy a luncheon in a beautiful riverside setting, shopping at unique artisian booths, a silent auction, and live entertainment. The master of ceremonies is Laurie West of Radio Alice 96.7. Come early and beat the crowds and buy wonderful items from local artisians, and bid on silent auction items.

For an event brochure, visit this link. Or call Vicki Sagouspe at 673-3645.

To find out more about the great work that Alegria and Children’s Hospital of Central California visit http://www.alegriaguild.com/ and http://www.childrenscentralcal.org/default.asp?ID=133.

The Alegria Guild was founded in 1949, 58 years ago! Wow!

Madera County, California Celebrates Patriot Day

“Tuesday, September 11, will mark the sixth anniversary of the devastating and senseless terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon,” said Harry Baker, owner of Sierra Telephone. Baker will sponsor what has become an annual Patriot Day celebration tomorrow, September 11, 2007. Madera County residents are invited to join in an expression of remembrance and thanks as we remember those who have paid the ultimate price for the freedom we all enjoy.

Participants in the community event will gather at Sierra Telephone headquarters located at 49150 Crane Valley Road (Road 426) in Oakhurst, California. The Patriot Day celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with the raising of the flag by American Veterans Post No. 1997. Oakhurst Elementary School fifth graders will lead the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Sweets & Low Trio singing the national anthem. The Yosemite High School Advanced Percussion Ensemble will perform. An invocation will be offered by Pastor David Sebastian.

Colonel Bruce Derry, USMCR retired will speak. Veterans and emergency services personnel will be honored. The program will end with a 21-gun salute by the Madera Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard, Post No. 1981 and the sounding of taps. Refreshments will be served at the Sorensen Pavilion in rear parking lot immediately following the ceremony.

“I believe that our family of companies, in all the areas we serve, can — and should — show our continuing support for our country and the freedoms we enjoy,” Baker said. To display their patriotism and support of US troops, Sierra Telephone vehicles will fly the American flag from September 11 until Veterans Day on November 11.

Oakhurst Chamber Sponsors E-Waste Recycling Weekend

Time to pack up that 14-inch black and white computer monitor that’s been taking up space in the attic. The old server that only had enough juice to run Windows 95 that you stuffed in the closet; dig it out. Those hulking old speakers from your college days; time to junk them. Collect the cell phone that went through the wash and the iPod the kids dropped in the lake. The Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring an E-Waste Recycling Weekend.

Recycle your old, used consumer and business electronic equipment this weekend. From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, August 25-26, electronic waste will be accepted at the Chamber office located at 49074 Civic Circle in Oakhurst, between the library and the college.

The following types of items will be accepted: computers, laptops, VCR/DVD players, TVs, LCD/plasma screens, fax machines, copier/printers, cell phones, MP3 players, stereo systems, amplifiers, speakers, microwaves, 10-key adding machines/registers. For more information, contact the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce at 559-683-7766.

E-waste is fast becoming a major solid waste problem in the U.S., comprising 5% of total municipal solid waste. The amount of e-waste produced in the U.S. is growing five times faster than all other waste categories. Researchers estimate that 75% of old electronics remain stored in basements, attics, garages, store rooms and warehouses because people don’t know how to correctly dispose of them. Electronic products contain high levels of certain hazardous materials like lead and other toxic substances, making them unsuitable for disposal in municipal land fills.

Do the responsible thing. Gather up your old, damaged, unused electronics and take them to Oakhurst this weekend for recycling.
