Addicted to Facebook?

I have resisted many fads and trends over the years of my life.   Such things as capris (not the drinks either), clogs and Pokemon come to mind.  To me these were fads that would just leave me with items I did not want to have.  I never did have a clog to my name, but when capris returned, I happily doned them!

Now, the whole electronic age is upon us and much of it is a major mystery to me and some of it seams like it could be just a major time sucker.  But, I am buying into it, for example, I am blogging right now and not more than 9 months ago I would have thought a blog was something needing  treatment  before you washed it!  Amazing how much a 40 year old can learn!

With much reluctance and great hesitation, I allowed my College age son to introduce me to my own facebook account.  Now, I am definately in foreign territory as I fumble my way through the maze of options on my facebook account.  To post on a wall or to email privately, or to chat…. Who knew?????  The younger set knows!

With my great confusion being confessed, I also have another confession; I think I am addicted to facebook!  Maybe it is because it is something new.  New things can always hold major appeal for us for a certain period of time until it is not new anymore.  The thing that facinates me about facebook is that I am able to communicate with friends and family with great ease and it is a blessing to be able to be and stay in touch with others.  I guess it goes to prove that the Lord can use technology to bless us also!  As you reach out to others at this time of the year and all year long, thank Him for the many blessings he has bestowed upon you!  And happy communicating!

I Smell Rain…

Did you have older relatives who would claim to know that the rain was coming buy the creak they felt in their knees? Or do you people who can look up into the sky and forecast the weather based on the cloud formations they see?

There is something to be said for these methods of predicting weather, but we can also use modern technology to get an idea of what to expect weather-wise.

Would you like to help your neighbors by assisting the National Weather Service in its efforts to compile information about the weather in Eastern Madera County?

The National Weather Service has a program called Citizens Weather Observation Program (CWOP). The program aims to collect weather data from citizens so that weather services and homeland security can make use of this information. Citizen participants will also get feedback so they can make adjustments as necessary to improve the quality of the date they contribute.

The information is transferred through the internet. To participate, you will need:

A home weather station (the are various brands that fit the bill)

A personal computer with a cable or DSL internet connection

Software and/or hardware for porting data

Visit this site to learn more about the program.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

A Great Adventure on Highway 49!

Have you ever wanted to travel thru gold country? Oakhurst, California is the place for you. Whether you want to experience a full service hotel or a local bed and breakfast, this is the place to travel to. Oakhurst is a historic town located 12 miles from the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park. Oakhurst offers restaurants, antique shops, boutiques, and galleries for your enjoyment in this picturesque historic town.

Visitors should consider visiting the Little Church on the Hill. This church has roots dating back to June 1894. This deteriorating church was relocated on July 14, 1957. It was restored for public use on June 10, 1995. This is the only remaining wooden structure of its era in the entire region. This church now stands as a landmark in Oakhill Cemetery for all to enjoy.

Another place to visit should include the Fresno Flats Historical Park. Visitors should visit the museum complex which includes 2 homes dated in the 1870’s. These homes are restored and furnished. Both complexes are designated “Points of Interest” by the State of California. Visitors will also be able to visit 2 one-room schools, several farm buildings and two 19th Century jails.

Coarsegold Historic Village is another must see in the area. Nestled in the Sierra Foothills on Yosemite Highway, visitors will enjoy panning for gold and the “Old West” atmosphere. Visitors will also encounter a genuine Tee Pee. The park is ideal for a relaxing picnic lunch. Shopping for art, antique and collectibles is also available.

There is certainly more to see in the area. Why not make a trip? You might find that you won’t want to return home!
